Totes.

So as part of the never ending clearout, today I was taking pictures of some clothes that are going to end up on dreaded ebay, and I thought that since I had my mannequin (who has no name, and no head) out anyways, I would take a few pictures of the new designs that I’ve been printing recently to let you all have a look.

These bags are a pretty useful size for carting stuff about, and I find mine especially useful, as they fit an a3 sketchbook perfectly inside, as you can just about see in the photos.

First up, the big round owl.

Then my best girl, Scary Mary (fortunately for you, I don’t know how to get me singing the Scary Mary theme tune on here – but if you want to have a go yourself, it goes “SCARY MARY! Coming to get you!” to the tune of Run DMC Mary Mary/Mary Queen of Shops theme tune).

And last, but not least (and actually not last either – I’ve done more designs, just not got pictures of them yet!) a robot in love.

You would think that I would have ironed the duvet cover backing sheet before taking photos, but no. Wrinkles it is then.

Print-print-print

Recently, with it being so dull and grey in Glasgow, my productivity levels have been down. I find it so hard to get going when its dark, and I can barely be bothered to do more than lie on the couch watching tv. However, with the sudden rise in temperature and sunlight, Ive been on a t shirt designing rampage!

I felt like some of the designs I had were getting old, and with a few of them seeming to pop up in duplicate from other sellers, I didn’t see much point in continuing to print them, when they weren’t so unique anymore. SO, I finally got round to making some new screens up, and I’ve been printing all week. Scary Mary has made the transition from necklace to t shirt, as have the big eyed owl and robot-with-a-heart. I also came up with a new cupcake design to replace my old cupcake (which to be fair, is more like an ice bun than a fancy cupcake) and I’ve replenished my old faithful highland cow for the summer visitors. I have a couple more ideas in the pipeline (I quite fancy putting the lobster from my header on a t shirt, though I doubt anyone other than me likes the idea of wearing a crustacean emblazoned shirt), but let me know if there’s something in particular YOU would like to see on a t shirt! I’m going to bring in the new summer colours too, lots of candy shades and pastels, so that when the Scottish summer is over (next week, probably!) there’s still something to keep my stall brightened up!

All the new t shirts are available at Sloans each Saturday, and are priced at a fiver each :) Come have a look!

Choose shoes.

I was just thinking that I can’t believe that even with all my moaning, and resolutions, that this blog is still so pititful! I have, however, realised why. It’s simply that running Rockmylobsterx is just so BORING! And if I find it boring to do, it’s going to be even more boring to write about, and in turn boring to read about. Don’t get me wrong, I like my set up, but it’s just not very newsworthy! This leaves me with the options of a) writing the same thing every day, b) making things up or c) writing about things completely unrelated to anything.

Unrelated it is then!

The first unrelated thing that I quite fancy blogging about is an idea from here. My name is Linzy and I am a shoe-a-holic. (I’m also a clothes-a-holic, but I’m letting that slide for the time being). The first part of the challenge is to assess just how many pairs of shoes you have, but I’m skipping that part, as it’s frightening enough to know it’s a 3 figure number, and that the first of 3 figures isn’t 1. Plus I stink at counting/sums. The next part though, I’m taking on. Basically, you get given a full year, and you need to wear every pair of shoes you own. Any shoes that don’t get worn in the year get dumped! It’s a win win situation, because I get more space, shoes that aren’t in my usual rotation get to see daylight, and the charity shop will probably end up with a good haul of shoes that haven’t even been worn. AND I’ll have something to blog about!

So today, I’ve not even been outside yet, so no pictures yet, but tomorrow, the challenge begins!

Spending lobsters

If ever there was a day for breaking out my amazing umbrella, today is it. However, I’m a bit precious about this brolly – it’s beautiful! It’s big, leopard print and it has frilly bits, so you understand why I’m a bit reluctant to brave the Glasgow Galeforce with it and end up with a not so beautiful inside out brolly :(

Unfortunately, I can’t even stay inside today, as I have things to post, post to pick up and car tax to pay. Just another not very exciting day at Lobster Towers… What is a bit more exciting though, is getting to buy supplies for Rockmylobsterx. I think I’m a shopping addict (expect to see me on a bbc3 spending documentary soon, and if not that, Snog Marry Avoid) so rather than chanelling my addiction to dresses and sequin shorts like I usually do, it’s more productive to buy wire and beady things.

Recently, or as recently as about December, I’ve been putting together little charm bracelets that have proven to be pretty popular, and in the past few weeks I’ve been making some that have interchangeable charms, so you can pick and choose colours and styles. There are also some with pretty big ribbons like prom corsages, and some with watches. I’ve also put together some cute glass bracelets with pearls and opal type beads and clear crystals that would be very cute for brides to be (don’t expect to see me on Bridezillas though).

At last!

So finally, late last night, I managed to complete the site makeover that I’ve been rattling on about for months. I say complete, when really I mean, ‘made a good start but still have millions to do’, but humour me!

New look website!

It’s super girly and pink, of course, and I’m a lot happier with this version than I was with the old one, though it’s still not ideal. It definitely matches my retail display more than my last effort did. I’ve cut a whole bunch of necklaces from the site too, just until I find a better stock management solution, as too many things were sold out, and I ended up feeling really guilty having to get in touch with people to tell them that the thing they had just bought, had just sold out.

But back to the bright side – it feels good to strike another thing off my massive TO DO list. As someone who is (inexplicably) busy, I pretty much always have a to do list on the go. At the moment, its quite lengthy, but by tomorrow, I’ll have sent stuff to the printing lady, done my report on optimisation and completed my expressive George Square work. I’m actually looking a bit forward to doing the George Square piece, since painting freely, printing and stenciling are all things I like to do. So now, all I have to do is get into gear, get to the studio and get going! Oh yeah, and get the rest of my to do list done as well :(

In a bid to make more blog posts, I bring you Another Post About Nothing Much Really. When is something exciting going to happen so I can make a massive post about it?!

Still workin’ workin’ on the site update. Today I did some more product pages and also, got some graphics done for the site. Hows about a preview?

It’s not really what I had in mind, but you’d be surprised how difficult it is to come up with something that combines girliness, lobsters and jewellery, so it’ll have to do for now.

Rockmylobsterx web background

Does it look a bit fuzzy to you? I think I’ve saved it at the wrong settings…

I have a week off from the studio next week, so aside from some partying, I’m hoping to FINALLY get those t shirts that I keep banging on about done. Easier said than done :(

Oh, my blog!

No posts since December? That really is some poor blogging action! And I know, out of about 3 posts that I’ve made on this blog, 2 of them are posts crying about not blogging, and me assuring myself I’ll make more posts, and then… well, you know how it is.

Anyways, since that last post quite some time ago, I’ve not been up to very much at all. I went on holiday for a few weeks, and then when I came back I was snowed under with catching up with business work, and also course work because I hadn’t been in the studio for almost a month as I caught some sort of bug when I got home from my holidays and was superglued to my bed for a while. I was also snowed under with actual snow which wasn’t much fun as it meant limited shoe choices and I had to give up my platforms and spikey heels for a while.

At the moment, I’m STILL catching up with coursework (I don’t know how I missed so much, but I’ve got a billion helter skelters and ice skaters to draw) and so my t shirt stock is really dwindling, but hopefully I’ll get a big run of shirts printed up on Friday and I’m also trying to get some time to adapt some of my little doodles into full size t shirt prints – it’s just a case of finding the time! I did manage to make up over 150 new jewellery pieces this week though, so they’re all on offer at my stall (details on my EVENTS page). Incidentally, I’m also working on a site overhaul as I’m getting a bit fed up of it how it is at the moment. Not a massive change, but just something a bit fresher!

What you’re missing out on!

Because I’m SO INSANELY BUSY (or lazy, it could go either way), I don’t get as much opportunity to update www.rockmylobsterx.com as often as I’d like. This has meant that my stock at Sloans and my stock online is a bit different, so I’ve uploaded a big bunch of the necklaces that I’ve photographed but just not got round to putting on the site yet! Don’t even ask about what’s going on with the second part of the photos, I think I changed to rgb half way, and it’s gone mental.

Dear Santa…

Last week I was talking to a small girl (not me) and amongst stories about decapitating wolves, she told me about her letter to Santa, and what she was asking for present-wise. Being about 5 and all, her list wasn’t of much interest to me, and when she refused to ask for a cat on my behalf, I was pretty much fed up of the list altogether. So, I’m writing my own (imaginary) list and getting Googleimages of it all – take that, small children!

First and most important on my list; a dog. I’m not fussy over what kind of dog, but I would prefer either a flatface bull terrier, a staffy dog, or the fluffiest dog in the world (I promise not to paint him like a panda).

Should I really luck out and get all 3 dogs, I’ll probably need some roller skates so I can go all Cesar Milan round the park with my pack. I already have some ok rollerblades, but they don’t even compare to these bad boys!

My new skates

When I’m not wearing my rollerskates (which, lets face it, would be hardly ever) I would probably force myself to wear a pair of these lovelies. (Ok, I really don’t need any more shoes, so I can pass on these if you come up with the hounds.)

And just because it’s the most ME thing in the world, I’d also ask for this LOBSTER and SKULL print scarf too.

So what do you think, SandyClaws? Have we got a deal? I know I’m up way past my bedtime, but I promise not to behead any wolves.

An update? Surely not!

I know when I started up this blog, I was pretty adamant that I would be updating it on a near daily basis. However, like many many many ideas that I have, it didn’t really turn out how I had hoped.

The reason is mainly that I’ve been pretty busy, and not had a whole bunch of time to be blogging. And I don’t particularly have any time now to be blogging – but whilst I wait for my potato waffle to cook, I thought I would squeeze a post in.

SO WHAT ARE YOU BUSY DOING? That’s what I think you might be asking, and the answer is, getting ready for Christmas (or the C word as it’s sometimes fearfully known). I’ve been getting a whole bunch of new products ready, and really having a go at expanding my printed range, and I’ve been messing about with some new illustrations that have been made into pendants, hairbands, keyrings, notebooks, t shirts, tote bags and teeny tiny little drawstring bags. I’ve also been working my fingers to the bone making more of my vintage and vintage style based jewellery, and spending hours upon hours getting packaging ready!

I’ve also decided to have a stall at Sloans on a Sunday as well as a Saturday now, so with that, plus being in the illustration studio three days a week, that only leaves me 2 days a week to get some work done. How am I meant to watch all my daytime tv shows if I have to get work done? I can barely squeeze in my digi-recording of the Gilmore Girls these days!

Hopefully I’ll have an exciting update soon, but I wouldn’t advise holding your breath :(
